Overview
The Applied Computing (via the Competency-based Stackable Micro-credential Pathway) is a three-year direct honours programme offered by SIT. This programme is designed to provide an upgrading pathway for in-employment individuals.
Course Description & Learning Outcomes
This programme primarily utilises a competency-based education (CBE) approach where learners acquire and demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills that are directly relevant to job functions. Each learner will experience a personalised academic journey, providing the flexibility to progress at their own pace. Moreover, this programme acknowledges a learner’s prior learning such as industry certifications or competencies acquired from work. This recognition allows learners to receive credit or exemptions for previously acquired knowledge and skills, further customising their learning experience. Learners will gain a strong technical and theoretical foundation in computing. They will enhance their technical skills through hands-on learning that integrates theory and practical skills in specific areas of computing, such as software engineering, cloud computing, computer networking, cybersecurity and AI. The programme comprises three components, namely, micro-credentials, a workforce essentials component and a capstone project, totalling 180 credits. Upon completion, learners will attain their Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Computing, earning Specialist Certificates along the way.
