Overview
The volume of data produced in the world is growing rapidly. Data is the basis for many new products and services, driving gains in productivity and resource efficiency. In the future, a large part of the data will come from industrial applications and sensors via the Internet of Things (IoT). Artificial Intelligence (AI) already plays an important part in analysing these high-volume and high-velocity data streams and deriving valuable informationand predictions from them.
In this event, our panel of experts from academia, government and industry will share insights on how big data and AI enable change, progress, innovation and data-driven decision-making in the industrial sector. We will discuss the importance of governance frameworks and standards for AI and big data-and the role of regulators and academia in fostering adoption of technologies that can be trusted by all stakeholders. Finally, we will look into the future where humans and AI will collaborate.

Johan de Villiers, Managing Director, ABB Singapore
In 2015 Johan was appointed as Managing Director for ABB in Singapore, and currently also leads ABB's Industrial Automation business in South-East Asia.
Following an education in electrical and electronic engineering, Johan gained practical experience in engineering, manufacturing and project management, followed by various business leadership roles which helped him further develop his technical and management-related skills. These roles took him from South Africa to the Middle East and Asia, working in areas such as robotics, industrial digitalisation, process automation, e-mobility, data centres and power grids.
Johan has a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as an MBA. He is a member of the Singapore government's Future Economy Council manufacturing sub-committee and serves on the board of the EU-ASEAN Business Council. He is also an advisor to consultative committees at National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and serves on the boards of several ABB legal entities and joint ventures.
Prof Mark Findlay, Professorial Research Fellow and Director, SMU Centre for AI and Data Governance
Professor Mark Findlay is a Professor of Law at Singapore Management University, and Director of its Centre for AI and Data Governance, where he is a Professorial Research Fellow. Also, he has honorary Chairs at the Australian National University, and the University of New South Wales, as well as being an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the British Institute for International and Comparative Law, and an Honorary Fellow of the Law School, University of Edinburgh. Professor Findlay is the author of 29 monographs and collections and over 150 refereed articles and book chapters. He has held Chairs in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, England and Ireland. For over 20 years he was at the University of Sydney as the Chair in Criminal Justice, Director of the Institute of Criminology.
Lee Wan Sie, Director - AI & Data Innovation, IMDA
At Info-Communications Media Development Authority (IMDA), Ms Lee Wan Sie is Director of Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Data Innovation. She focuses on working with industry and government partners to enable data-driven innovation in Singapore, to anchor Singapore as a data hub and support economic growth. Also, she responsible for driving AI governance and growing a trusted AI eco-system in Singapore. Wan Sie has extensive experience in technology use in the public sector, having developed Singapore's long-term national ICT and digital economy strategies and implemented large whole-of-government digital services. She has also provided advice on digitalisation to other governments in the world.

Andreas Deppeler, Director - Data & Analytics, PwC Singapore
Andreas Deppeler is a Director of Data & Analytics at PwC Singapore, an Adjunct Associate Professor at NUS Business School and a Research Affiliate at the Centre on AI Technology for Humankind at NUS Business School.
As an advisor, he helps companies build trust in emerging technologies through risk management and governance. At NUS Business School, he teaches courses on technology, data value, ethics of artificial intelligence and business strategy.
Andreas has lived and worked in Singapore since 2016, after 18 years of academic research, management consulting and banking in Europe and the United States. He obtained an M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics from ETH Zurich and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Rutgers University.
