Pioneering Intelligence is an initiative of Flagship Pioneering harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate innovation in the life sciences and beyond. Pioneering Intelligence is building unique AI/ML know-how to (i) augment the capabilities of Flagship companies and enable bigger leaps in human health, sustainability, and tech (ii) amplify the process of creating breakthrough innovations, and (iii) originate new platform companies that build on innovations in machine learning. In November 2023, Flagship Pioneering announced its expansion into the Asia-Pacific region, with the opening of a regional hub in Singapore, to accelerate the growth and scaling of Flagship’s companies and enable Flagship to broaden impact on human and planet health through strategic partnerships across industry, academic and healthcare systems in the region. Most recently in October 2024, Flagship Pioneering and Agency or Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) also announced a collaboration to boost the life sciences ecosystem in Singapore by promoting R&D activities and co-developing technology in strategic areas, with a focus on talent development.

Armen Mkrtchyan, Origination Partner, Flagship Pioneering
Armen Mkrtchyan

Armen Mkrtchyan is an Origination Partner at Flagship Pioneering and leads Pioneering Intelligence, an initiative to institutionalize and expand the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Flagship and portfolio companies, and to help drive Flagship’s efforts in AI research to identify breakthrough innovation platforms in human health and sustainability. Armen brings a strong entrepreneurial spirit and depth of business and technical operations experience to this role. He joined Flagship from McKinsey & Company where he was most recently an Associate Partner and Co-leader of the McKinsey Center for Future Mobility. He led large corporate transformations, client development efforts, and engagements on strategy and operations with a focus on the impact of AI in the automotive, aerospace, and hi-tech/electronics sectors. Armen was awarded a Ph.D. in Aeronautics & Astronautics from MIT and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (summa cum laude) from the University of North Dakota.

Loong Wang, Cheif Executive Officer, QDX
Loong Wang

Loong Wang, trained in computer science at ANU with a focus on mathematics and distributed supercomputing, co-founded two deep-tech and fintech startups in 2017, raising over $50M. By 2021, after a $1.8B market cap exit, he shifted to biotech. He co-founded Talo Labs with Taiyang Zhang to advance biotechnologies through in silico methods. In 2022, he launched QDX, a computational drug discovery company integrating quantum mechanical simulations, supercomputing, and artificial intelligence; and Automera, an autophagy-focused molecule degrader platform, serving as QDX's CEO and Automera's CTO.
