At the event, Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, and Roland Jakab, CEO of HUN-REN, will introduce HUN-REN as the driving force behind Hungary's research and innovation ecosystem. In a Fireside Chat, Jui Lim, CEO of SG Innovate, will discuss the similarities between Singapore and Hungary as innovation-driven nations, and share his experiences with the Hungarian research ecosystem, particularly through HUN-REN's initiatives.

Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN, HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network
Balázs Gulyás

Since 2012 Balázs Gulyás has been a Professor and President's Chair of Translational Neuroscience at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and the Director of the Cognitive Neuroimaging Centre (CoNiC) of NTU. He is a member of, among others, Academia Europaea the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Royal Belgian Academy of Medical Sciences and until his appointment as the President of HUN-REN effective 1 May 2023 he was a member of the Advanced Grants Panel of the European Research Council. Concurrent with his appointments at LKCMedicine in Singapore and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, he is an Honorary Professor at the Division of Brain Sciences, Department of Medicine, Imperial College London.​

Roland Jakab, CEO of HUN-REN, HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network
Roland Jakab

He began his career in 2000 at Ericsson Hungary Ltd., initially as a strategic business consultant, later managing mobile banking and systems integration projects. He then handled sales for Multimedia products in Hungary and Macedonia. In 2008, he became Director of Marketing and Communications, and later Deputy Managing Director. In 2013, he was appointed Managing Director, leading 2,000 employees, including 1,600 R&D staff, and in 2018, Head of Strategy for Central Europe. He has led innovations in 3G, 4G, 5G, AI, IoT, and more. As of January 1, 2024, he has been appointed CEO of HUN-REN. He chairs several organizations, including Hungary's AI Coalition and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.

Jui Lim

As CEO of SGInnovate, Dr Lim Jui has overall leadership of the organisation that is committed to helping entrepreneurial scientists build and scale Deep Tech startups. At SGInnovate, Jui and his team work closely with a wide range of partners and co-investors to back this unique group of founders, who are looking to solve global challenges with their research-based solutions.
