Overview

Our Masterclass provides comprehensive coverage of the requirements and routes to validation for metal additive manufacturing (AM) parts produced by powder-bed fusion (PBF) and directed energy deposition (DED) manufacturing processes. This three-day training programme, spread over five sessions, is based on ISO and ASTM standards and is intended for individuals who use, or plan to use, AM in serial or critical applications and would like to learn more about the routes to Qualification and Certification. Participants are expected to have a solid background in Additive Manufacturing.

The programme leverages recent case studies from the PBF and DED world to provide context for structural integrity challenges and opportunities. Our expert trainers have extensive in-depth experience in Materials, Qualification and Certification, and making parts from Additive Manufacturing Methods. The learning methods are based on logic and experience, and real-life best practices (and lessons learned) will be shared. This is not a series of lectures; there will be discussions, mini-workshops, and ample opportunities to ask questions.

Course Description & Learning Outcomes

The masterclass equipped participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities associated with AM qualification and certification. Over three days, attendees delved into critical topics including:

  • Qualification methods for AM processes

  • Certification processes for AM parts

  • Best practices for ensuring consistent quality in AM production

  • Developing industry-specific qualification metrics

A stimulating panel discussion followed insightful talks from renowned experts. The lively session facilitated engagements with leading figures in the field, delving deeper into critical issues and exchanging valuable insights. The masterclass concluded with a technical tour of AIC, as well as SIMTech and ARTC laboratories – giving a first-hand experience of AM R&D efforts, showcasing researchers' work and approach to solving industry production issues using AM.
