The convergence of artificial intelligence, robotics and biotechnology has not only changed how man lives, but also the very meaning of life. In this session we explore how soft robots can be used to improve the health of people suffering from paralysis and how artificial intelligence is applied to personalised medicine. We will also discuss how innovative uses of sutures will improve the recovery of patients undergoing surgery and follow-up communication with their doctors.

Surgeries are a pain. No surgery is possible within the body without the use of surgical sutures, which are threads used to fasten the tissue.
What if these sutures behave more than mere threads? What if they can aid in alleviating the post-surgical trauma? What if the sutures can show us what is happening at the surgical site deep within the body, using just a mobile app?
We have developed WISE (wireless sensing) sutures which are capable of detecting post-surgical complications like sudden bleeding, infection and loosening of sutures and communicating the information through a mobile reader and app. The patient and clinician can now see and track, both the wound healing status and unfortunate complications. The patient, instead of being rushed to the hospital when it is too late, can now reach out to the clinician as early as possible. This can bring more peace to the patients and their families, plummeting the trauma and healthcare cost. Well, it is not just a one-way communication. The patient/clinician can also wirelessly instruct the drug reservoir on-board the suture, to release therapeutic drugs through the mobile app. How much wiser can a suture be?

Personalised medicine - disease treatment tailored to an individual - is one of the most exciting trends in the modern medicine. This approach thrives thanks to the emergence of new technologies. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a game changer as it is used for processing theever growing amount of information individual's genotype, disease history, lifestyle choices, but also factors like weather and air pollution, among many others.
While big data analysis opens a sea of possibilities it comes with its own problems. In the N.1 lab we take a different approach we use an AI-derived platform, CURATE.AI, to create the individual's map of responses based on as little as several drug-result data pairs. The map, different for everyone, is then used to pick the drug doses and drive the best therapy result. Working closely with clinicians CURATE.AI team has been able to help patients lower their indicators of cancer, supress side effects, and shorten patients' hospital stay. After success stories in treating cancer, infection diseases and posttransplant care, CURATE.AI is now being explored for uses in digital therapeutics and to improve brain function.

Jane Wang is the CEO and Co-Founder of Roceso Technologies, a pioneering robotics startup based in Singapore, that offers wearable soft robotic solutions for rehabilitation and assistive functions with the goal to bring independence and dignity back to people's life. It is Singapore's first and only soft robotics company helping patients with limb motor functions impairment.Besides managing the day-to-day functions of the business, Jane is in charge of the business strategy and growth for the company. She is also in charge of the global expansion of the brand.Prior to co-founding the Roceso Technologies, Jane worked in several multinational companies and excelled at multiple functions including engineering, human resources, sales, and consultancy. Jane has always been an entrepreneur at heart, having started an eCommerce business at just 20 years old.She has a Master's Degree from the National University of Singapore in Intellectual Property Management and a Bachelor's Degree from Nanyang Technological University in Mechatronics Engineering/Robotics.
