Overview
With more businesses embracing digital transformation, there is a greater need for stronger data protection capability in businesses. Professionals and executives who are appointed as the Data Protection Officers (DPO) need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their functions in order to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
Organisations need to adopt an accountability-based approach to safeguard personal data and use them responsibly. Setting up a proper governance structure to oversee the data protection efforts and to mitigate data protection risks, implementing a data management programme, managing data breach incidents, and engaging both internal and external stakeholders is what the data protection officer (DPO) needs to do for his/her organisation.
