As part of SGInnovate's Developers Meetup series, we want to engage with technical experts and developers to share their knowledge and expertise on various technologies as well as potential collaborations.
Nowadays, dialogue systems are virtually everywhere, from calling a bank to be connected with a so-called auto-informer system, to driving to a new place and using mobile assistants such as Siri and Cortana.
As conversations with virtual assistants become more innate in people as they search for information, dialogue systems are likely to be found everywhere and for various scenarios in the foreseeable future. Dialogue systems are generally classified based on their purposes, such as whether they are Task-Oriented or for General-Purpose. Task-Oriented systems are created to solve a particular problem, like finding the information requested by a user or accomplishing a task. General-Purpose systems are often designed to converse with human and make the conversation smooth and enjoyable.
Join us for this talk as Dr. Lei Wenqiang, Research Fellow, NUS introduces both types of dialogue systems, the recent research outcome and the feasibility of unifying both systems within one solution framework.

Speaker's Profile:
Lei Wenqiang, Research Fellow, Company NUS
Lei Wenqiang is a research fellow from School of Computing, National University of Singapore. His research interests focus on natural language processing and computational linguistics, covering topics in task and non-task -oriented dialogue systems, discourse analysis, conversational recommendation system and sequence-to-sequence model evaluation. He has published first-authored long papers on various top venues for natural language processing, inclusive of ACL, IJCAI and AAAI. And he has served as the reviewer for top venues like ACL and SIGIR.
