Overview
Quantum technologies (QT) have been rapidly emerging as a strategically important set of technologies for many actors globally. Globally, more than €50B of (mostly public) investment has been promised for the development of QT, with a particular focus on quantum computers, which poses a threat to the current cryptographic infrastructure of many critical digital services.
Since QT is expected to be disruptive and has a considerable societal impact and a high amount of public investments, there have been calls to develop ethical and responsible governance principles and practices on how to develop and deploy QT in our societies globally. This workshop on responsible quantum technologies aims to bring together players and actors from states with emerging and more established QT initiatives in the Indo-Pacific region (especially from ASEAN members). We consider this a perfect opportunity to explore critical issues around intra-regional and inter-regional cooperation, collaboration, diplomacy, geopolitics, and security around QT.
The event consists of a public day and a private day. The first day (15th October) will be open for public participation (limited to 100 participants) and focus on an overview of the national QT efforts of participant countries, and an introduction to the responsible QT efforts in the region. The second day will be open to only a select group of participants and will consist of further discussions and a workshop on the impact of the geopolitics of QT on the Indo-Pacific region. Registration for the second day requires an additional confirmation step.
Registration will close in early October and all the applicants will be informed by 9 October.
