Overview
Today, banks and large financial institutions around the world are struggling to meet the ever-increasing scale and rate of regulatory change. Processes for Know-Your-Customer (KYC) compliance, in particular, are costly and time-consuming with huge fines for non-compliance today. The value proposition of blockchain for KYC becomes readily apparent.
Established in 2016, the IBM Centre for Blockchain Innovation was set up in Singapore to advance the practice and development of blockchain technologies in the region. Since its inception, the lab has engaged in projects in various areas such as trade logistics, finance, compliance, and so on.

Speaker:
Fabian Lim received the B.Eng and M.Eng degrees from the National University of Singapore in 2003 and 2006, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Hawaii, Manoa in 2010, all in electrical engineering.
Previously from Nov 2014 to March 2016, he was with SK Hynix Memory Solutions Inc, San Jose. From June 2013 to Nov 2014, he was with LSI Corporation, San Jose. He was co-awarded an NSF grant in support of his post-doctorate research, during the period Sept 2010 to May 2013 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. He has held short-term visiting research positions at Harvard University in 2004 and 2005.
From Oct 2005 to May 2006, he was a staff member in the Data Storage Institute in Singapore. From May 2008 to July 2008, he as an intern at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, San Jose. In March 2009, he was a visitor at the Research Center for Information Security, Japan.
