Dr. Erik Paulson,Architect, Platforms and Data Science, Johnson Controls
Dr. Erik Paulson is an architect in the Platforms and Data Science group at Johnson Controls. There, he works on Digital Vault, the data platform that helps power a number of connected equipment and smart experiences products for JCI. Before working on Digital Vault, he was part of the team that helped create JCI's first data lake.
Prior to joining Johnson Controls, he was a member of the research staff and then a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Wisconsin, he helped manage the research computational infrastructure for the campus and often represented the university in the National Computational Science Alliance. As a graduate student, he worked on Big Data systems, including as a member of the team that produced one of the most influential Hadoop benchmarks, and later on Human-in-the-Loop AI systems for entity matching.
Dr. Paulson has been active in the community with open data and civic software development. He served on the City of Madison's Broadband Telecommunications Review Board, and later was appointed by the Mayor of Madison to serve on the city's Digital Technology Committee and was the committee's inaugural chair. He has organized civic technology and smart city meetups and events in the area.
Dr. Paulson earned a B.S., an M.S., and a Ph.D., all in Computer Sciences, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Young M. Lee, Distinguished Fellow and Director of Artificial Intelligence Product Development, Johnson Controls
Dr. Young M. Lee is a Distinguished Fellow and the Director of Artificial Intelligence Product Development at Johnson Controls and is leading a global team of AI scientists and developing Industrial IoT solutions using ML/DL/AI and optimization technology.
Dr. Lee previously worked for 15 years at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center as a Research Staff Member, a Research Manager and an IBM Master Inventor, and developed industrial applications of mathematical modeling, optimization and machine learning.
Dr. Lee also worked for BASF for 14 years, founded and managed the Mathematical Modeling Group, and led development of numerous optimization and simulation models for various manufacturing and supply chain processes.
Dr. Lee received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University, published 6 book chapters and more than 50 refereed technical papers, and holds over 20 patents. He is a frequent speaker at conferences, universities, and customer events.
