Overview
Organized by AWS and Vietnam’s Investment & Business Partners (IBP), this Starting up the Southeast Asia Green Economy will convene startups, investors, government and sustainability innovation stakeholders together for a thought-provoking conversation on how Southeast Asia should develop a green economy powered by technology innovation and startups towards 2030.
As the world’s 4th largest energy consumer, Southeast Asian has a critical role to play in global climate action and decarbonization. However, while there has been a steady uptick in commitments from all stakeholders – with four governments raising climate commitments and seven considering carbon pricing measures, the region is not on track to reduce emissions by approximately 33% by 2030. Increasingly, technology and startups are playing critical roles to help advance Southeast Asia’s sustainability agenda. Proven solutions in energy, urban solutions, agriculture, etc. could deliver up to 85% of needed action to close the emissions gap. In addition, improved collaboration between corporates and governments will unlock further action. Notably, in August 2023, Singapore and Vietnam have expanded their scope of bilateral cooperation to focus on the green economy and innovation.
