Overview

As of September 2021, women made up 41% of the tech workforce in Singapore, surpassing the global average of 28%. Many women leaders have demonstrated their expertise and leadership in areas such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, etc.

This event aims to inspire and empower more women to pursue careers in technology and showcase the valuable contributions women make to the industry and society at large. 
 
Organised by EDB, SGN, AWS and SGInnovate, and in celebration of International Women’s Day, this event brings together some of the most influential and innovative women leaders in the technology industry. These leaders will share their stories of success, challenges, and insights on how they are driving impactful innovations for the world in Singapore and across the region.

Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec, Vice President, Amazon Web Services



Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec is the Vice President for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Block and Object Storage services, which include Elastic Block Storage (EBS), Simple Storage Service (S3), and Amazon Glacier. Mai-Lan has been an engineering and product leader of AWS storage and compute services since 2010. Prior to joining Amazon, Mai-Lan spent nine years in engineering and product leadership roles at Microsoft, as well as three years in early stage startups.

Mai-Lan has mixed Vietnamese/Caucasian heritage and grew up in Asia as part of a US diplomatic family. She lives in Seattle with her husband and three boys. When she is not working on Amazon cloud services and spending time with her family, Mai-Lan trains as a recreational boxer. She also holds a green glove ranking in the martial art Savate.


Puiyan Leung, Partner, Vertex Ventures



Pui Yan serves as Partner, Investment in Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India and focuses on opportunities in Southeast Asia.

Prior to joining Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India, Pui Yan was an Investment Director at Singtel Innov8, the CVC arm of Singtel.  Prior to that, she assumed a range of operating roles, including Business Development, Product Marketing and Strategy.

Pui Yan is a Kauffman Fellow and graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree from the National University of Singapore.

Serene Cai, Co-founder, Speedoc




Serene Cai is the Co-Founder and Head of Partnerships and Projects at Speedoc. At Speedoc, she works with major healthcare institutions for clinical validation of digital healthcare, creating consortiums with industry partners to provide enhanced medical care through digital means, and generally finding new and safe ways to enhance healthcare delivery through technology. She is passionate about making healthcare more accessible and causes relating to women and children.

So far, more than 33,000 patients have booked doctor visits via Speedoc. Last year, the startup raised $5 million in its series A round of financing led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India.


Moderator's Profile:

Jacqueline Poh, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board



Ms Poh was appointed Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) on 4 October 2021. She was previously Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office Strategy Group, which leads and organises the Public Service to develop and implement the strategic priorities of the Government. She also oversaw the National Population and Talent Division and the Centre for Strategic Futures.

Ms Poh was the founding Chief Executive of the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech), and was previously the Managing Director of the Infocommunications Development Authority (IDA). She has also held key positions in the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defence.

Ms Poh is an alumnus of Oxford, Cambridge, INSEAD (MBA) and Stanford. She has three teenagers and more patience than before she had them. She currently sits on the Boards of SingHealth, the Singapore Institute of Technology and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research. She is the Chairperson of the DesignSingapore Advisory Board and is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation.
