Overview
Quantum technology is an emerging area of deep technology, with countries such as the US, China, Germany and Singapore investing heavily into its research. These technologies have the potential to be disruptive. They promise solutions to real-life problems within healthcare, energy and aerospace amongst other fields. While many of the applications are in their infancy, the next step is to prepare for a future quantum economy - how we can build stronger industry-researchcollaboration in order to maximise quantum innovation and adoption.
Join us as our panel discuss the futureofquantum economy following the signing of memorandum of understanding between SGInnovate and Centre for Quantum Technologies.

Speakers' Profiles:
Artur Ekert, Founding Director, Centre for Quantum Technologies
Artur Ekert is CQT's founding Director. He is also the Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professor at the National University of Singapore and the Professor of Quantum Physics at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford, UK. He is one of the pioneers of quantum cryptography. He has worked, communicated with and advised several companies and government agencies.
His current research extends over most aspects of information processing in quantum-mechanical systems. He is a recipient of several awards, including the 1995 Maxwell Medal and Prize by the Institute of Physics and the 2007 Royal Society Hughes Medal. In his non-academic life he is an avid scuba diver.
Chune Yang Lum, Co-Founder and CEO, SpeQtral
Chune Yang Lum is co-founder and CEO at SpeQtral, a spin-off company from the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) that is developing and commercializing space-based quantum communication systems. He was previously Head of Strategic Development at CQT, where he was responsible for activities and engagements with industry and government stakeholders in promoting and raising awareness of quantum technologies to the community. He also advises on commercialization strategies for technologies and IP developed at the centre.
Prior to joining CQT, Chune Yang was responsible for business development in Asia-Pacific for SES, a global satellite operator. In this role, he led engagements in satellite programmes with private companies and governments in various countries. He also led market entry strategies and implementation plans for several markets and was involved in various internal innovation initiatives. Before his stint at SES, he was a management consultant with ZS Associates, where he advised MNCs in the US and China markets.
Chune Yang holds an MBA from INSEAD, an MSc. in Physics from the Pennsylvania State University, and a BSc. (Hons) in Physics from the National University of Singapore
Runyao Duan, Director, Institute for Quantum Computing atBaidu Research
Runyao Duan is currently the Director of Institute for Quantum Computing, Baidu Research. He is also a Professor and the Founding Director of Centre for Quantum Software and Information at University of Technology Sydney (currently on leave). He obtained a PhD of Computer Science from Tsinghua University, Beijing in July 2006, and has become a Professor and Australian Research Council Future Fellow since July 2012.
He has been working in the fields of quantum information science since 2001, and has made several fundamental and methodological contributions in the areas of quantum operation/state discrimination, zero-error communication via noisy quantum channels, quantum entanglement transformation, and quantum programming. In 2016, he together with Andreas Winter from UAB showed that the celebrated Lovsz number is exactly the zero-error classical capacity of a graph assisted by quantum no-signalling correlations, thus providing a complete information-theoretic interpretation of this number for the first time since 1979. Up to now, he has published/presented about 100 papers in top-tier international referred journals/conferences.
He served and chaired the Steering Committee of QIP conferences (2013-2016), and was the head of QIP2015 Local Organizing Committee. He also served the Program Committee of AQIS2012, AQIS2014-6, and QIP2017. He is serving the Program Committee of AQIS2019 as a co-chair.
