Overview

Design thinking is a useful tool that can help participants to innovate and problem solve, understanding the underlying customer’s needs and behaviors and then ultimately building quality customer relationships which leads to a sustainable source of revenue growth.

Design Thinking Starts With Me uses different prototyping methods such a sketching, or physical props to help stakeholders visualise the solution and to get buy in to the idea or solution. Previously, ideas and solutions are only verbalised or presented in written proposal and reports.

Course Description & Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Articulate the concept and importance of design thinking

  • Explain the 5 stages of the design thinking process

  • Apply design thinking methodologies to define a problem statement and generate ideas for a given problem statement

  • Identify 2 different methods of applying design thinking in own organisation and apply the decision metrics to determine feasibility of design ideas and solutions

  • Promote design thinking in own organisation and articulate the importance and purpose of prototyping in the design thinking process

Peter Gwee, Associate Trainer/Developer, James Cook Institute (JCI)
Peter Gwee

Peter Gwee has over 40 years of diverse experience across industries including the military, warehousing, distribution, printing, construction, electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, security, and IT software. He began his career in the Singapore Armed Forces, holding various roles, and later transitioned to publishing, printing, and engineering. He spent 12 years overseas in the UK and China. He joined a security company’s digital transformation team, where he designed and conducted courses on technologies like data analytics, robotics, and design thinking, reaching over 500 colleagues across multiple countries. Peter later developed citizen developer training using Microsoft PowerApps, Power Automate, and Power BI. He is a theoretical physics graduate from Imperial College, a certified Design Thinking facilitator, and fluent in English and Mandarin.
