Overview

This 1-hour seminar aims to give insights into how medicinal chemistry plays a crucial role in drug discovery and development.

The seminar will begin by discussing the current challenges facing the pharmaceutical industry, including the productivity crisis in R&D. The differences between small and large molecules will be explained, and the importance of medicinal chemistry in improving the developability parameters of small molecule drugs will be highlighted. This will include a discussion of the various strategies and techniques used in medicinal chemistry to optimise the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and safety profiles of drug candidates.

Attendees will also gain insights into the latest strategies and techniques used in medicinal chemistry and the potential of emerging technologies, such as AI, to improve the drug discovery process.

Trainer's Profile

Medicinal chemist with over 15 years’ experience across a wide range of biological target classes for several disease areas in Big Pharma. Yannick has led the medicinal and synthetic chemistry strategies of various programs and has experience in managing projects involving large teams at Contract Research Organisations. Yannick has deep expertise in the various early stages of drug discovery, ranging from the identification of hit compounds from HTS or fragment-based screens, all the way to the selection of candidate molecules. He is currently the Founder and Managing Director of Calixor Pharma Consultancy, a drug discovery consultancy advising for effective pre-clinical pharma research of small molecule drugs.
