A Guide to Singapore’s Quantum Ecosystem

SGInnovate’s ecosystem domain maps give a bird’s eye view and visual guide that highlights strategic players and contributors in emerging tech domains. With this map, players will be able to identify where partnerships need to be fostered to help accelerate innovations to market.
Singapore is at the forefront of quantum technology advancements and talent development in Southeast Asia. In May 2024, the National Quantum Strategy (NQS), Singapore’s national quantum initiative, pledged an additional $300 million over five years to strengthen efforts in the sector, with a significant portion directed toward building quantum computer processors locally.
This builds upon the over $400 million the nation has already invested in the sector, which has, thus far, led to the formation of 10 quantum startups (as indicated in the map we’ve developed) in communication, simulation, photonics and sensors to name a few, and given rise to around 350 quantum researchers and PhD candidates in the field here.
The strong government backing in the quantum field has also encouraged major corporations like IBM to establish partnerships with leading research institutions such as the National University of Singapore to advance quantum computing research and development.
SGInnovate was one of the early movers in quantum technology investments, leading both the Seed and Seed Plus rounds of funding for local quantum software tool developer Horizon Quantum Computing. Our role as talent and ecosystem connectors places us strategically at various intersections between key players in the domain, including institutes of higher learning, national ecosystem builders, other investors and startups.
While there is ample opportunity for more partnerships to drive innovation, understanding the key players in this evolving ecosystem – who they are, what they offer, how they connect, and where the gaps lie – can be complex.
We have created the Singapore Quantum Ecosystem Map to help businesses and researchers navigate this space. This resource highlights startups, investors, research institutions, and corporate partners shaping the quantum landscape in Singapore.
The map will be updated periodically.
